Small Turbo Car
I have a 4g64 2001 mitsubishi galant, and I’m thinking about dropping a small Turbo but need some help here.?
It is the 2.4L, 4cylinder engine. Right now it has an exhaust, cold air intake with a turbonator in it, aftermaket headers, and a performance chip plugged into the MAF, IAT sensor. I want to drop a smaller turbo and I figured that the stock engine and internals would not be able to handle that, and I’m probably right yes? What I need to know is, on this particular car, would a small turbo cause the need for replacing several things or maybe just port and polish the heads and crankshaft and get some aftermaket pistons and fuel injection?
Any comments or suggestions?
Direct injection? Forget about it. It’s going to be a nightmare.
But…I digress…you have all this ebay crap on your car (the “plugged into the maf” is a dead giveaway) so that tells me you have a loose definition of what you can do with your engine safely. Saying “polish the crankshaft” is another dead ringer…all that does is make the crank look pretty. You already have fuel injection it’s either port (which is okay for turbocharged applications) or direct injection (which can be a nightmare for turbocharged applications). But I’m not going to go there. Turbocharging a car that wasn’t built to take a turbocharger is not cheap and requires more money and work than you’re willing to pay so…just leave it alone until you can afford a new car; then buy one set up to take boost like a wrx.
